The ISPRS DMGIS05 workshop is on schedule, and looking good!
The submitted papers have been reviewed, and the successful papers have been revised and submitted for printing in the Proceedings. There will be 11 single-track sessions, each on a specific topic, with speakers from most parts of the world, but with special emphasis on Europe and China. Consequently, the 12th session will be a round-table discussion on collaborative research and funding issues between these regions, with participants from major government agencies and funding experts. There will be keynote addresses by Prof. Chen Jun, Director of the National Geomatics Center of China, and Glen Hart, of the UK Ordnance Survey.
These will take place on the Tuesday to Thursday, 6-8 September. On Monday there will be a full day Tutorial, included in the registration fees, covering the theory and applications of spatial data structures and 3D graphics. This is supported by the EU Marie-Curie Chair in GIS at the University of Glamorgan, under Chris Gold. There will be live demos of applications, class exercises and an introduction to 3D graphics programming using OpenGL. We are sure that you will find this very useful for your future projects.
You will also find the Workshop Banquet, on Thursday evening, to be very special. We have rented Caerphilly Castle, the second largest castle in the UK, and the Mediaeval Banquet, with whole roast lamb and pig, will be excellent. In addition, we have engaged a troupe of actors to give us a feel for life in the Middle Ages. They usually work at one of the Welsh Heritage sites, and are well renowned locally.
We hope that you will decide to come along for all these possible reasons: the calibre of the papers, from all over the world, on this cutting-edge topic; to learn the research plans of two major agencies; to discuss international collaboration opportunities; to learn the basics of spatial data structures and 3D programming (and take your work home with you); and the mediaeval banquet that will give you a real taste for the history of Wales, and an experience you will not forget!
Sincerely,
Chris Gold
