Travel to the University of Glamorgan
Cardiff to the University
In almost all cases you will first need to travel to Cardiff, and then take the train to Treforest station (Trefforest in Welsh) - this takes 20 min. There is a sign that says 'University of Glamorgan'. (Do not get off at Treforest Industrial Estate, which comes first, or at Pontypridd, the postal address, which comes after.) Trains run every 10/15 minutes in the middle of the day, to and from Cardiff, and take around 20 minutes.
From Cardiff Central Station, trains leave from Platform 6, heading for Treherbert, Merthyr Tydfil or Aberdare. National Rail Enquiry Service (24 hours) - 08457 48 49 50. Latest departures: Sunday 4th September: 19:27, 19:58, 20:27, 22:19; Monday 5th September: 19:27, 19:46, 20:14, 20:22, 20:47, 21:16, 21:48, 22:33, 23:41. Trains are often delayed. After these times you may need to take a taxi.
The University is a five minute walk from the station, and the residences another five minutes up the hill. Accommodation has been reserved in en-suite bedrooms on campus. 6 bedrooms make up 1 flat which has shared kitchen facilities. The en-suite rooms have private shower rooms with toilet.
You can get off at Pontypridd train station which comes after the Treforest train station. There are many taxi outside the train station. It costs around 5 pounds to go from Pontypridd train station to the University of Glamorgan. Please ask the taxi driver to take you to the accommodation office which is on top of the hill.
For more details about getting to the university see the
Visitor's Guide. You can also download the
access map see. Arriving at Treforest station, walk to the roundabout and turn right up Brook Street. Turn left into the campus where it says 'T' on the map. The conference will take place where it says 'J' (for J Block, or 'Taf' building). The residences are at the top of the hill, where it says 'GC', past the Security Lodge. If you are coming by car, carry on west in front of the university, and turn right up Forest Grove. Turn right where it says 'E' on the map, stop at security, and then drive up to the residences.
By Air to Cardiff
Cardiff International Airport is just 11 miles from Cardiff and has regular direct flights from Europe. Bus and taxi services operate from the airport to the city centre (about £20), or directly to the University (about £35).
From outside Europe, KLM is the easiest airline to use, as it flies to Cardiff airport directly from Amsterdam. Other airlines usually arrive at London Heathrow or London Gatwick. From within Europe, either KLM or BMI Baby (www.bmibaby.com) fly to
Cardiff airport. From there you can take either a bus, train or taxi to Cardiff Central train station, where you would change for Treforest. Alternatively, you could take a taxi directly to Treforest - but check the price first!
By Air from London Heathrow
National Express buses stop at Cardiff Bus Station, adjacent to Cardiff Central rail station. Tickets can be purchased on the Internet (you print out the ticket page and show it to the driver). Alternatively, Mega Bus (www.megabus.com) operates services between London and Cardiff for £3-9. Tickets are purchased on the Internet only. The bus stops in two places in Cardiff - firstly opposite Cathays rail station where trains to Treforest can be caught, and at Cardiff Castle in the city centre.
