Often referred to as 'The Old Testament' by enthusiasts, this is the original publication by David Vizard - acknowledged expert on the A-series engine - which was subsequently 'superseded' by his later book - "Tuning BL's A-Series Engines" - therefore often referred to as 'The New Testament'.
The book sets out to explore every avenue to obtaining better performance from the Mini, from topics so seemingly minor as the oil you use, to the detailed modification that may be made to the engine head to extract the last bit of power.
While obviously very much aimed at the performance enthusiast, economy tuning is also covered - with the recognition that many performance tricks are equally valid for economy.
In comparison to his later book, this is much more concise and probably much easier to follow by the beginner or inexperienced enthusiast, with good text and many clear photographs, drawings and graphs.
In conclusion - no one book will ever tell the whole story on a given subject, and this one is no exception. But it goes a long way beyond what the DIY motor mechanic will ever need to turn a great little car into a great little performer - a usefull addition to the Mini library.
