Editorial positions

I have been Associate Editor of the New Review of Hypermedia and Multimedia since 1997.

I was appointed as a member of the Editorial Review Board for the International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction in 2004.

Professional bodies

I am a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS, CITP) and also a CEng. I serve as a Committee Member for the South Wales BCS Branch and I am Regional Liaison for Interaction, (formerly the BCS HCI SG) and am also a committee member for the BCS Internet SG.

I am a Fellow of the Institute of Welsh Affairs.

I am a member of the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR).

Conference committees

Chair of the second IASTED International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction - IASTED-HCI 2007. The abstracts of all the papers are available free of charge.

I was co-chair (with Laurel Evelyn Dyson, Indra Nataatmadja and Marie-Christine Deyrich) for the Intercultural Perspectives on IS track for the Australasian Conference on Information Systems, 2005.

I was a member of the Organising Committee for the Centre for Border Studies Workshop on E-dentity: Borders and Identities on the Internet Age, in 2004.

Reviewing

I have been reviewing for a variety of journals and conferences since 1999. Although it can be a real burden sometimes, I actually quite enjoy reviewing.

I have recently taken part in a reviewing process where each of the reviewers was able to see all of the other reviews and there was also a dialogue area for discussions. This is an excellent approach and one which I would have found very useful at the beginning of my reviewing career. Even now it is reassuring to know that I didn't miss anything too obvious in my reviews!
