Identify Knowledge Used Knowledge used in solving the problems: Knowledge from the textbook in the current context. Previously acquired knowledge from the textbook. Prior world knowledge.

We attempt to identify the knowledge used by the students in solving the problems much as is done in traditional knowledge engineering. The knowledge is of three sorts: First, the knowledge that has been acquired from the textbook in the current context, eg the current section of the book. Second, knowledge that was acquired from some earlier section of the book. Third, general world knowledge that the student has already mastered. The knowledge may be of various types eg declarative, procedural, patterns.
