The Emperor's New Mind Concerning Computers, Minds and the Laws of Physics 1989 Quantum Mechanics Chapter 2 on Turing Machines Chapters 1 & 10 on the Mind

Roger Penrose's book "The Emperor's New Mind: Concerning Computers, Minds and the Laws of Physics" was published in 1989. Despite the title, most of the book is a clear exposition of quantum mechanics. There is also an excellent exposition of algorithms and Turing machines in chapter 2. Only the first and last chapter are about minds and AI. In these chapters Penrose attacks "strong AI" and puts forward his view that machines cannot have mathematical insight.
