Roger Penrose's book "Shadows of the Mind" was published in 1994. It has two parts. In the first part, entitled "Why We Need New Physics to Understand the Mind", he writes about consciousness, Godel and mathematics. In the second part, entitled "What New Physics We Need to Understand the Mind", he discusses quantum physics and the brain. There is a good critical review of this book in Psyche
