The Medical Imaging Research Group at the University of Glamorgan specialises in the analysis of skin images, both in the visible domain for the measurement and assessment of chronic leg wounds and in the far infrared domain for physiological assessments.

Wound Measurement
The Group collaborates with a network of clinicians and has developed an instrument – MAVIS – that allows clinicians to monitor the slow progress of a healing wound by measuring its dimensions using stereophotogrammetry.

Infrared Imaging
The Group has developed a software package – CTHERM – which captures and analyses infrared images of the human body such as those resulting from Hand-Arm Syndrome. They are members of an international network of specialists in infrared imaging in medicine and collaborate with researchers in the USA, Europe and the UK on the standardisation of the technique by contributing to protocols and benchmarks such as the Atlas of Infrared Normals.
