Chapter 1. Informaton Systems in Business

Introductory material, relevant to IS218 (The Practice of Systems Development), IS234 (Structured Analysis and Design Techniques).

Chapter 2. Systems Analysis

This chapter begins by looking at the nature of information flow and how information requirements are elicited and modelled (using Data Flow Diagramns). It also looks briefly and informally at normalisation. The material is relevant for IS218, IS234 and ISM28.

Chapter 3. Systems Design

This chapter looks at Entity-Relationship Modelling and Entity / Event Modelling (Entity Life Histories. The material is relevant for IS218, IS234 and ISM28

Chapter 4. Introduction to Methodologies & SSADM

This chapter introduces SSADM, a typical example of a structured, waterfall methodology. It provides useful background infomation for IS218 and IS234.

Chapter 5. Data Management and Database Technology

This chapter begins by lookig at the nature and practice of data management at the corporate level. It also discusses in more detail the relational and network data models. The material is relevant at a surface level to IS218 but is more relevant for IS225 (The Practice of Systems Development 2) and IS235 (Structured Information Systems Development)

Chapter 6. On-Going Research

The material here is currently being developed, it concerns the developoment of a hybrid methodology for information systems development.
