*       14 April 2011: Keynote talk at 7th International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Engineering (JIEEEC). I received the Plaque of the Jordan Engineering Association!

*      02 February 2011: Birthday present: I got my Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGD Management) from Glamorgan Business School. I have done 6 modules on the MBA, as well.

*      30 July 2010: Great Success:  my proposal  for the Centre of Excellence for Mobile Applications and Services has been approved by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) with a budget of £5 million for 5 years.

 

*      27 July 2010: NGMAST 2010  Conference Opened in Amman under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya of Jordan. The conference was a great success. (www.ngmast.com)

 

*      06 May 2010: Congratulations to Dr. Belal Ahuhaija who defended his PhD entitled “A Simulation Framework for Service Continuity over Multi Access Wireless Networks under my supervision.

*      10 February 2010: Appointment Confirmed: The Executive Board has approved my appointment as the next EuroSim (The Federation of European Simulation Societies) President during the first ever UK Presidency of EUROSIM 2010-1013. This means I will be the President of the Federation of European National Societies on Modelling and Simulation as well as host of the EuroSim Congress in Cardiff in 2013. The position will be taken during the EuroSim Congress in Prague in September 2010. (News in Details)

 

*      3-5 December 2009:  I participated in the EU-Med meeting in Amman, Jordan hosted by The Royal Scientific Society. During the 3 days visit, I had meetings with:

1.      HE Basem Rousan, Minister of Information and Communications Technology

2.      Dr. Ahmed Hiasat, CEO of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in Jordan

3.      BG Reda Btoush, Deputy Director of the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management.

*      15-18 September 2009: NGMAST’09 has been a great success again. 100 participants with 0 no shows.

 

*      10 September 2009:  My new spinout company Glamex Security Ltd  started the development of the “Live Guard” system. I am currently the CEO of the company.

 

*      1 September 2009: My book :IMS: Deployment and Development Perspectives” is published by John Wiley & Sons today.

 

*      14 July 2009: A Proud Day: Three of my PhD students graduated today: Firas Albalas, Chitra Balakrishna, and Suleiman Yerima. Congratulations to all. This makes the number of PhD completion 7 in 12 months plus one MPhil.

*      27 March 2009: Nominated to Lead the UK Presidency of EUROSIM 2010-1013. This means I will be the President of the Federation of European National Societies on Modelling and Simulation as well as host of the Eurosim Congress in Cardiff in 2013.

*      21 March 2009: Invited to deliver the keynote talk at The International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation CSSim2009, Brno, Czech Republic on 7-9 September 2009.

*      March 2009: Appointed as “Cardiff Ambassador” by Cardiff & Co. to promote Cardiff as a Capital of conferences.

*      10 March 2009: Inaugural Professorial Lecture (about five years late). Title: ”Service Science, Service based-communications: Research and Business”, Glamorgan Business Centre, 6-8 pm.

*      28 February 2009: The manuscript of the book entitled: “IMS: Deployment and Development Perspectives” to be published by John Wiley & Sons in September 2009 has been submitted today.

*      16-19 September 2008: NGMAST’08 has been a great success. 120 participants and leading keynote speakers such as Henry Tirri, Vice President of Nokia Research Centre.

*      5-8 June 2008: ECMS/ASMTA2008 was a great success in Cyprus. Record numbers and ASMTA proceedings published with Springer Verlag for the first time.

*      13 November 2007: Invited to Orange VIP table on the IET Innovation Award Ceremony in Marriot Hotel at Grosvenor Square, London. Around the table were: FT VP Research, Managing Director, CTO and the Head of Research in Orange Labs UK in addition to Dean of EE, UCL.

*      12 November 2007: Invited Lecture at France Telecom-Orange Labs Webinar entitled “Service Science” in Chiswick, London.

*      11-14 September 2007: NGMAST’07  has been a great success.

*      15 May 2007: I have been invited to join a Welsh Assembly Government ICT Special Interest Group subcommittee on “Future and Horizons”. The remit of the subcommittee is to advise WAG on the future of telecoms.

*      18 January 1007: I have been invited to deliver the Keynote Speech at the “After 5” event on Mobility in London which is organised by International Business Wales and Intellect (The Trade Association of UK hi-tech Industry).

*      22 November 2006: Preparations started for the International Conference and Exhibition on Next Generation Mobile Applications, Services and Technologies (NGMAST’07) to be held in Cardiff on 12-14 September 2007. I am the General Chair of the conference.

*      26 October 2006: I have been invited to deliver the Keynote Speech at the First Annual European Cantata Technology User Conference held on 25 – 27 October 2006, in the beautiful location of Malta.  This is a premier, “must attend” event for all Cantata developer customers – carriers and enterprises alike.

*      24 October 2006: Royal recognition for scientific contributions: Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have given a reception in Buckingham Palace on the evening of 24th October 2006 to recognise the contribution of more than 500 British scientists.  I was invited as one of the recognised scientists!

*       July 2006: Invitation to join the Editorial Board of the International Journal on Modelling and Simulation in Engineering, Hindawi Publishing House, USA..         

*       30 May 2006: I have been elected as the Chairman of the European Council for Modelling and Simulation in the Annual General Meeting of the Council which was held in Bonn, Germany.

*       25 September 2005: I have been invited to be a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College for the period 2006-2009.

*       07 July 2005: The Saddest day: I was in LONDON on this very sad day. I witnessed the horror of terrorism personally. I still cannot understand how people can be so inhuman, cruel and criminal! I can only thank God for being able to write these lines.

·         The Mobile Computing and Networking Research Group and the School of Computing are now members of The Wireless University Forum (TWUF) sponsored by Vodafone and Orange. We are among the first to join. I am also member of the experts’ panel of TWUF.

·         The MSc. in Mobile Computing has been successfully launched.  Additionally, our mobile computing lab has been set up jointly at the moment with the networking lab.

·         The webpage of the 12th International Conference on Analytical and Stochastic Modelling Techniques and Applications (ASMTA'05), Riga, Latvia, 01-04 June, 2005 has been updated.
