Call for Papers

Overview

This call for papers is for the fifth annual conference of the UK Academy for Information Systems (UKAIS). The conference is the premier event in the Information Systems calendar in the UK and attracts leading academics, researchers and practitioners both from the UK and internationally. As in previous years, all submitted papers will be peer reviewed, and all accepted papers will appear in proceedings published by McGraw-Hill. Selected papers from the conference will appear in a special edition of the journal New Review of Information Systems Research published by Taylor Graham. The 5th international conference of the UKAIS is being organised by the Wales and West Regional Group of the UKAIS and will be held at the Cyncoed Campus of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).

A conference package including low-cost (DBB) accommodation in a 3-star hotel (with leisure facilities) within walking distance of the campus has been arranged.

Cardiff

Cardiff, the Capital of Wales, is one of the best-kept secrets in the UK. With a population of 300,000, it is a compact city that offers all the cultural and recreational amenities of a successful and modern European capital.
Cardiff hosted the Congress of the European Heads of Parliament in 1998 and is the host venue for the Rugby World Cup in 1999.
Cardiff benefits from excellent transportation links, being easily accessible by road, rail and air. It is less than two hours travelling time from London, the Midlands and the South West.

Conference Topics

Papers are welcomed on any issue falling within the UKAIS definition of the discipline of information systems. The UKAIS views information systems as being the means by which organisations and people, utilising information technologies, gather, process, store, use and disseminate information. The domain of information systems requires a multi-disciplinary approach to studying the range of socio-technical phenomena which determine their development, use and effects in organisations and society. Papers may be submitted reporting on any area of the field of information systems. Suitable areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Theoretical underpinnings of information systems
2. Data, information and knowledge management
3. Integration of information systems with organisational strategy and development
4. Information systems design
5. Development and maintenance of information systems
6. Information technologies as components of information systems
7. Management of information systems and services
8. Organisational, social and cultural effects of technology-based information systems
9. Economic effects of technology-based information systems

Papers may address any of these topics from a research, teaching or practice focus.
